Understanding your options

Choose tests for a clear clinical purpose

Blood tests, profiles and checkups

A complete blood count (CBC or haemogram), blood sugar tests, HbA1c, thyroid investigations, liver function tests (LFT), kidney function tests (KFT or RFT), lipid profiles and vitamin tests are common searches. They answer different questions and should be selected according to your clinician’s advice.

For a package, ask which individual investigations are included. A parameter count alone does not establish usefulness. Check whether a profile uses total or free thyroid hormones, whether a glucose test is fasting or post-meal, and whether the sample or method matches your prescription.

Tell the laboratory about your medicines, relevant supplements, pregnancy, recent illness or collection difficulties. Reference intervals and interpretation can vary by age, clinical circumstances and laboratory method.

Vaccine antibodies, IgG and titres

An antibody test measures part of an immune response. A titre (also written titer) or quantitative value is not a universal measure of complete protection. A positive result may reflect prior vaccination or infection; a negative result can require context rather than an automatic booster.

Use antibody testing when a clinician, occupational-health service or receiving institution has a clear requirement. Check the required antigen, antibody class, assay, units and acceptable report format before booking.

The catalog’s antibody section is generated from its assigned tests. Browse current antibody entries. Investigations that are absent from the catalog are not offered by this page.

Important differences between antibody tests

Hepatitis B: anti-HBs, HBsAg and anti-HBc

These markers have distinct roles. Anti-HBs concerns surface antibodies; HBsAg and anti-HBc contribute to infection assessment. Post-vaccination anti-HBs testing is appropriate for selected groups, including certain healthcare personnel, rather than everyone.

For selected people whose response needs checking, timing after the completed vaccine course matters. A low result many years later can reflect waning measurable antibodies and should not be interpreted in isolation. Ask a clinician to review vaccination records and the complete marker pattern.

Measles, mumps, rubella and varicella

IgG tests can contribute to evidence-of-immunity assessment in selected situations. They are different from acute-infection investigations such as IgM or molecular tests. Routine post-vaccination testing is generally unnecessary, and documented vaccination matters when interpreting results.

Commercial chickenpox / varicella-zoster (VZV) IgG assays may miss antibodies produced by vaccination. A negative result after vaccination does not automatically mean that the vaccine failed. Institutional requirements should be checked separately.

CDC: VZV laboratory testing

Hepatitis A IgG and total antibodies

IgG and total-antibody tests are different assays. Total antibodies include more than one antibody class; interpreting recent illness can require additional information. Neither a test label nor a positive antibody result alone establishes when an infection occurred.

Match the exact test requested and discuss symptoms, vaccination dates and any prior reports with your clinician. Preparation, reporting units and reference limits should come from the performing laboratory.

DTP antibodies and rabies IgG

A combined diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis IgG entry should not be presented as proof of protection against all three diseases. Pertussis has no universally accepted antibody threshold that establishes individual protection.

A catalog entry named Rabies Virus IgG must not be relabelled RFFIT, FAVN or rabies-virus neutralizing antibody (RVNA) without laboratory confirmation. Neutralizing-antibody assays use specific methods. A suspected rabies exposure requires urgent medical care, regardless of previous titres.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a lab test?

Search a test name, abbreviation or common term. For example, CBC, blood sugar, HbA1c, vitamin B12, thyroid, lipid profile, anti-HBs or chickenpox. Use the four categories to narrow the results.

Is lab-test booking available across India?

VacciHub offers pan-India lab-test booking support. Home sample collection and laboratory access depend on your PIN code, the requested test, partner-lab availability and collection requirements. Confirm availability before payment or travel.

What is the difference between a test, profile and package?

An individual test measures a specific analyte or marker. A profile groups related investigations, such as a liver or thyroid profile. A package combines tests across several health areas. Similar names can include different investigations, so confirm the actual contents.

Are prices and test availability final?

Catalog entries can be available for enquiry while details are being reviewed. Prices shown on an entry marked pending confirmation are reference prices, not a confirmed booking quote. Confirm the provider, city, applicable offer, sample-collection fee and total cost with VacciHub.

Do I need to fast before a blood test?

Preparation depends on the exact test and laboratory method. Follow the confirmed collection instructions. Do not stop medicines or supplements without advice from your treating clinician. Tell the collection team about your medicines and any relevant instructions.

How much does home collection cost?

The current catalog collection fee is ₹200 per eligible visit. Eligibility, scheduling and any additional charges must be confirmed for your address and selected tests. Some investigations require laboratory collection.

When will my report be available?

Use the report time on the specific catalog entry as a guide. Collection cut-off times, transport, weekends, repeat testing and specialist processing can affect the actual delivery time. Confirm the expected turnaround when booking.

Can a health-checkup package diagnose every illness?

No. A package is not a guarantee that a disease will be detected or excluded. Choose investigations with a clinician according to your symptoms, age, history and risk factors; avoid unnecessary tests solely because a package contains more parameters.

Do I need antibody testing after every vaccine?

No. Routine antibody testing after every vaccination is not recommended. Testing is useful in selected clinical, occupational or documentation situations, and the appropriate assay and timing depend on the vaccine and individual circumstances.

Is anti-HBs the same as HBsAg?

No. Anti-HBs measures antibodies to hepatitis B surface antigen. HBsAg is a hepatitis B surface-antigen test used in infection assessment. Anti-HBc measures core antibodies. These results have different meanings and should not be substituted for one another.

Can a negative chickenpox IgG test mean my vaccine failed?

Not necessarily. Commercial varicella IgG assays may fail to detect vaccine-induced antibodies. Routine testing after documented vaccination is generally unnecessary. A clinician should interpret a negative result alongside your vaccination record and circumstances.

Does rabies IgG confirm protection after a bite?

A routine rabies IgG assay must not be assumed to be a rabies-virus neutralizing-antibody test. Confirm the method and units if neutralizing-antibody testing is required. After a bite, scratch or other suspected exposure, seek urgent medical assessment; do not wait for an antibody test.

Can an IgG result distinguish vaccination from previous infection?

Often it cannot. Interpretation depends on the infection, antigen, method, timing and clinical history. A positive IgG result is not a universal certificate of protection, and it does not by itself establish an active infection.

Will my university or employer accept a titre report?

Requirements vary by institution and country. Ask for the required analytes, method, reporting units, date limits and accepted laboratory before booking. VacciHub cannot guarantee that an institution will accept a particular report.

How do I choose between two similar tests?

Match the exact analyte, antibody class, specimen, method and intended purpose. IgG, IgM, antigen, total-antibody and molecular tests answer different questions. Ask your clinician or the laboratory if your prescription is ambiguous.
