πŸ‘₯ Who Should Get ABHAY TOX (Tetanus Toxoid Vaccine)

Tetanus toxoid vaccination is recommended as part of routine adult immunization and is essential for wound management. ABHAY TOX is especially important for:

πŸ€•

Wound Management – Cuts & Injuries

Deep, dirty or puncture wounds (soil, rust, animal bites) carry tetanus risk. A booster is recommended if the last dose was more than 5 years ago for tetanus-prone wounds, or more than 10 years ago for clean minor wounds.

🀰

Pregnant Women

Tetanus toxoid is a routine part of antenatal care to prevent maternal and neonatal tetanus. Unimmunized women receive 2 doses 4 weeks apart; previously immunized women need only a single booster.

πŸ”

Adults Due for 10-Year Booster

Anyone who completed their primary childhood immunization series should receive a decennial (every 10 years) booster dose to maintain protective antitoxin levels.

🌾

Occupational Risk – Farmers, Gardeners, Construction Workers

Frequent contact with soil, dust and rusty metal significantly raises exposure to Clostridium tetani spores, making up-to-date immunization important.

🩹

Diabetics with Foot Ulcers or Chronic Wounds

Non-healing wounds and reduced wound care immunity increase tetanus risk – keeping booster doses current is recommended.

✈️

Travellers to Remote or Rural Areas

Limited access to emergency medical care makes it prudent to confirm your tetanus immunization status is current before travelling.

πŸ”¬ ABHAY TOX Composition – Per 0.5 mL Dose

Each 0.5 mL dose typically contains, as per Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) standards for adsorbed tetanus toxoid vaccines:

ComponentQuantityNotes
ACTIVE INGREDIENT
Purified Tetanus Toxoid (Adsorbed) Not less than 40 IU per dose Adsorbed onto an aluminium-salt adjuvant to enhance immune response
EXCIPIENTS
Aluminium Phosphate / Aluminium Hydroxide (adjuvant)q.s.Enhances and prolongs immune response
Thiomersal (preservative)≤ 50 µg Hg per dose, or thiomersal-free presentationCheck product label for exact presentation
Sodium Chlorideq.s.Isotonic buffered solution
Water for Injectionq.s. to 0.5 mLVehicle
πŸ’‘ Note: Exact excipient quantities and presentation (thiomersal vs thiomersal-free) can vary by batch. This composition reflects the standard IP monograph for adsorbed tetanus toxoid vaccines – please refer to the manufacturer's package insert supplied with your dose for definitive, batch-specific details.

βš™οΈ How Does ABHAY TOX Work

1
Toxoid Antigen Injected Intramuscularly 0.5 mL of ABHAY TOX is injected IM into the deltoid (or lateral thigh in infants). The dose contains inactivated, detoxified tetanus toxin (toxoid) adsorbed onto an aluminium-salt adjuvant. No live bacteria or active toxin is present – the vaccine cannot cause tetanus.
2
Immune Recognition and Processing Antigen-presenting cells at the injection site process the toxoid and present it to T-helper cells, initiating the adaptive immune response.
3
Antitoxin Antibody Production Activated B-cells produce anti-tetanus toxin antibodies (antitoxin) capable of neutralizing tetanus toxin on future exposure. Memory B-cells and T-cells are also formed for long-term immune memory.
4
Protection Lasts Approximately 10 Years After a complete primary series, protective antitoxin levels typically persist for about 10 years, which is why a routine decennial booster dose is recommended to maintain protection.
βœ… Cannot cause tetanus: ABHAY TOX contains only inactivated (detoxified) tetanus toxoid – there is no live Clostridium tetani bacteria or active toxin in the vaccine. It is physiologically impossible to contract tetanus from this vaccine. Mild soreness or low-grade fever after vaccination are normal immune-activation responses, not tetanus infection.

⚠️ ABHAY TOX Side Effects

Tetanus toxoid vaccines have a well-established safety record from decades of global use. Most recipients experience no or only mild, self-limiting side effects.

🟑 Common (Mild, 1–2 Days)
  • πŸ’‰ Injection-site pain or soreness
  • πŸ”΄ Redness or swelling at injection site
  • πŸ€• Mild headache
  • 😴 Fatigue or malaise
  • πŸ’ͺ Myalgia (muscle ache)
  • 🌑️ Low-grade fever (below 38°C)
πŸ”΄ Rare – Seek Medical Attention
  • πŸ”Ί Severe local swelling (Arthus-type reaction, more common with frequent repeated boosters)
  • 😡 Syncope (fainting) post-injection
  • ⚑ Guillain-BarrΓ© Syndrome (GBS) – extremely rare
  • 🚨 Anaphylaxis (extremely rare)
πŸ’‘ Post-vaccination care: Remain seated for 15–30 minutes after injection. Apply a cool cloth to the injection site if sore, and paracetamol may be used for pain or fever as advised by your doctor. Seek medical attention for high fever, severe swelling, or any signs of an allergic reaction.

🚫 Precautions & Contraindications

Do Not Take If:

  • Anaphylaxis or severe allergic reaction to a previous dose of this vaccine or any of its components
  • Moderate to severe acute febrile illness – defer vaccination until full recovery (mild illness without fever is NOT a contraindication)

Use with Caution – Consult Doctor First:

  • History of Guillain-BarrΓ© Syndrome (GBS) within 6 weeks of a previous tetanus-containing vaccine
  • Bleeding disorders or anticoagulant therapy (IM injection requires caution)
  • Received a tetanus-containing dose within the last 5 years and have no wound risk – unnecessary early re-boosting can increase local reaction risk

Important Clarification:

ABHAY TOX is a vaccine (toxoid) used for active immunization – it teaches your immune system to produce its own protection over 1–2 weeks. This is different from Tetanus Immunoglobulin / Anti-Tetanus Serum (ATS), which provides immediate, passive (borrowed) antitoxin protection right after a wound in someone who isn't fully immunized. Your doctor may recommend both together for high-risk wounds.
