What Disease Does BIOPOLIO Protect Against?
BIOPOLIO protects against Poliomyelitis (Polio), a highly infectious viral disease caused by poliovirus (Type 1 and Type 3) that spreads mainly through the fecal-oral route (contaminated water/food) and invades the nervous system. It can cause irreversible paralysis within hours, most commonly in children under 5 years, and in rare cases can be fatal when breathing muscles are affected.
Irreversible Paralysis
Poliovirus can invade the spinal cord and cause permanent limb paralysis, most often in the legs, within hours of infection.
Children Most at Risk
Children under 5 years are most susceptible; the virus spreads easily in areas with poor sanitation.

ℹ️ BIOPOLIO does not contain Type 2 poliovirus (withdrawn globally in 2016 as wild Type 2 was eradicated) and is preservative-free.

How Is BIOPOLIO Given?

Simple Oral Drops
2 drops are placed directly into the child's mouth using the dropper/vial – no injection, no needle, no pain.

Spit-Up Rule
If the child spits out or vomits the dose within a few minutes, a repeat dose can be given at the same visit.

Do NOT give BIOPOLIO if the child has:
- Severe vomiting or diarrhoea at the time of the scheduled dose (defer until recovered)
- A known severe immunodeficiency disorder (e.g., SCID) – use IPV instead, consult a paediatrician
- A household contact who is immunocompromised (discuss with your doctor)
- A known severe allergic reaction to a previous dose
