Chickenpox spreads rapidly among children and can cause complications like skin infections and pneumonia. IAP recommends 2 doses — first around 15 months, second at 4–6 years.
Anyone above 13 years with no history of chickenpox or prior vaccination should receive 2 doses, 4–8 weeks apart. Adults tend to have more severe disease than children.
Chickenpox during pregnancy can harm the baby. Susceptible women should complete vaccination at least 1 month before conception. Not to be given during pregnancy itself.
Staff without prior immunity working around patients, newborns or immunocompromised individuals should be vaccinated to prevent transmission.
A single dose given within 72–120 hours of exposure to a chickenpox case can prevent or significantly reduce disease severity in susceptible contacts.
Each single-dose vial, after reconstitution with the supplied 0.5 mL diluent, typically contains:
| Component | Quantity | Notes |
