How Does Pentavac SD Work?
1
Introduces inactivated antigensToxoids and killed/purified components from five pathogens are introduced without causing the actual diseases.
2
Immune system respondsThe body produces antibodies against Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Hepatitis B and Hib simultaneously.
3
Conjugate technology boosts Hib responseThe Hib polysaccharide is conjugated to tetanus toxoid, helping a baby's immature immune system mount a strong, lasting response.
4
Booster locks in long-term protectionThe 16–18 month booster reinforces immune memory for durable protection through childhood.
Possible Side Effects
Common
Injection-site pain, redness & swelling; mild-to-moderate fever; irritability or fussiness; mild drowsiness or reduced appetite for 1–2 days.
Rare
High fever above 104°F; persistent inconsolable crying over 3 hours; rarely, seizures (usually fever-related) or a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).
💉 Paracetamol (as advised by your doctor) can help manage fever or discomfort after vaccination. Seek immediate medical attention for any severe or unusual reaction.
Precautions & Contraindications
Do NOT give Pentavac SD if:
Severe allergic reaction to a previous dose of any DTP/pentavalent vaccine
Encephalopathy within 7 days of a previous pertussis-containing vaccine
Acute moderate-to-severe illness with fever – defer until recovery
Use with Caution:
History of high fever, collapse, or persistent crying after a previous DTP dose
Known bleeding disorder or on anticoagulant therapy
💉 Whole-cell pertussis note: Pentavac SD uses whole-cell pertussis, which may cause more fever and local reactions than acellular (DTaP-based) vaccines like Infanrix Hexa. Discuss the choice with your paediatrician.
