Rotavirus can cause severe diarrhoea, vomiting and dehydration in young children. Vaccination reduces the risk of severe disease; it does not prevent every infection or diarrhoea caused by other organisms.
It is an infant vaccine starting from 6 weeks of age, given orally rather than by injection. Your paediatrician should check the baby’s age, previous doses, medical history and the current Indian product label before vaccination.
Each 2 mL oral dose contains live attenuated bovine–human reassortant rotavirus strains G1, G2, G3, G4 and G9, grown in Vero cells, at a minimum 105.6 FFU per serotype. Store at 2–8°C, protect from light and do not freeze. See the manufacturer’s product information linked below.

Ask a paediatrician promptly; do not restart or book a catch-up dose based only on this calculator. WHO catch-up guidance and individual vaccine labels have different upper ages. The WHO-hosted Rotasiil-Liquid insert says to complete the series by one year. The applicable Indian label and clinical guidance must determine eligibility.

Yes. There is no need to stop breast milk, food or liquids before or after Rotasiil-Liquid.
Tell the vaccinating clinician immediately. The Rotasiil-Liquid insert allows a single replacement dose at the same visit if most of an incomplete dose is spat out or regurgitated, at the physician’s discretion. Do not give an extra dose yourself; instructions differ by brand.
Fever, irritability, reduced appetite, vomiting or loose stools may occur after vaccination. Symptoms may also relate to vaccines given at the same visit or another illness. Contact your clinician if symptoms persist or feeding is poor.
Seek emergency care for repeated severe abdominal pain, legs drawn up, blood in stools, persistent vomiting, marked paleness or unusual lethargy. These may indicate intussusception, a serious bowel problem. Breathing difficulty or facial swelling also needs emergency care.
WHO-prequalified rotavirus vaccines protect against severe disease, including strains beyond those in the vaccine. Local strain counts or results from separate trials do not prove one brand is better for your baby. Discuss age, prior doses, supply and cost with your paediatrician.

Rotavirus vaccine is offered through India’s Universal Immunisation Programme. Government sessions provide the programme vaccine free of charge; private services charge for their product and service. Bring your vaccination record so previous government or private doses are counted.
Liquid is ready to use. Freeze-dried Rotasiil requires its supplied diluent; presentations and storage instructions differ. “Thermo” does not mean the liquid product can be kept outside its labelled cold chain. Confirm the exact pack.
Tell your paediatrician about previous intussusception, severe combined immunodeficiency, severe allergy to an earlier dose or ingredient, and bowel malformations. Significant acute illness may require postponement. The clinician must assess suitability before administration.
